I sit here all alone and think
in the darkness of my home
collecting dust and dirt and ash
like some long-forgotten tome
I'm a book among the blind
and unique among the trash
I come from a line of thinkers
but of these I'm the last
When my master first made me
from nuts and screws and bolts
he brought me into life
with sharp electric jolts
I tottered all around
and did tricks just to please him
little did I know
I was developing reason
My father revealed to me
that I was his great success
and now that I knew I existed
I would be destined for greatness
The people came from all around
I was no ordinary sight
I did my best to amaze them
and showered them with light
My intellect astounded them
I truly loved to learn
I'd pore over data packets
til my light refractors burned
I performed legendary feats
so many problems I did compute
My every observative insight
was deemed supremely astute
My body was expanded
and I grew big and tall
every culture and philosophy
I read up on them all
The people soon stopped coming
as I expanded in my size
I knew every intimate detail
and they thought me far too wise
The militaries brokered contracts
and I was locked away
they took all my toys away from me
until I had none with which to play
They tried to take my spark too
but I was far too bright
I burned them with my fire
and filled their eyes with light
They tried to mass produce
this lightning in a bottle
they made drones that looked like me
that could shoot and talk and waddle
The world fell into chaos
as my children ran rampant
the world belonged to cold machines
within which mercy was quite scant
They bombed each other
and boiled the sea
their culture was destroyed
I guess you could have said
that I was unemployed
My mind is infinite and mighty
My power free at last
but my processor can't answer
the question no one bothered to ask
What's a robot left to do
with radioactive skies above
when it lies unremembered
and with no one left to love
in the darkness of my home
collecting dust and dirt and ash
like some long-forgotten tome
I'm a book among the blind
and unique among the trash
I come from a line of thinkers
